It’s 24 degrees in London today and I’m heading down to Finsbury Park to lay in the sun and listen to Tay Iwar’s recent EP Renacentia EP.
This week’s Tune of the Week goes to Tay Iwar, a Nigerian recording artist, singer-songwriter, and producer. Raised in Lagos and Abuja, he began creating music at age fourteen. After co-creating the Bantu Collective in 2013, Tay released his debut compilation ‘Passport’ in April 2014. Though it was underpromoted upon release it became a sleeper hit and helped Tay gain commercial standing.
Tay Iwar was born in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria and lived there for 12 years before moving to F.C.T, Abuja, Nigeria. In ninth grade, Tay was introduced by a friend to production software and he subsequently spent the rest of high school learning his way around recording and music production before leaving Nigeria to study Audio Engineering.
